Presentation
When constructing infrastructure (roads, railways, solar farms, etc.), renovating buildings (facades, roofs, attics, etc.), or carrying out work in protected areas or zones designated for environmental protection, contractors are often confronted with the presence of regulated species. Under current regulations, the project sponsor must take the presence of these species into account. Tradespeople working on construction sites at the request of private individuals—particularly in the building sector—must also be aware of how to respond when an animal or plant species is discovered during renovation work.
The primary objective of this training is to enable those involved in the pre-construction and construction phases to fully understand the measures related to the management of local species.

Objectives
- Knowledge of regulatory procedures related to regulated areas and species,
- Understanding the ERC approach and the rationale behind prioritizing issues,
- Knowledge of impact analysis,
- Recognize the most common protected species and understand their ecology,
- Know how to implement the necessary measures to preserve biodiversity.
Program
30 hours of training spread over 4 days of in-person sessions— Training available as an in-house program
PROGRAM
Day 1: (half day)
- Introduction: Why Should We Consider Biodiversity?
- Exemptions for Protected Species: Legislation and Regulations.
Who submits the application? What happens to the application?
Day 2:
- Regulatory Frameworks for Impact Assessments and Impact Studies: When and Why Conduct an Impact Assessment?
- The Special Case of Construction in Protected Areas
- Analysis of projects involving a variety of situations: Solar farms, road and rail infrastructure, ZACs, and renovations of existing buildings
- How is the report structured? Key components of the reports, Considerations on mitigation measures
Day 3:
- Case Study on Mitigation Measures During the Construction Phase
- Each case study will provide an opportunity to explore issues related to the functioning of ecosystems (ecology, biogeochemical cycles, etc.) and the biology of the species in question.
Day 4:
- Visit to an active construction site
Day 5: (half day)
- Assessment Based on a Case Study
- Oral presentation based on a group analysis of the case study
- The analysis should highlight biodiversity issues, the proposed measures, their limitations, and possible improvements
