Aeronautics, a thriving sector in Occitanie!
With its strong aeronautical sector, the Montpellier region is also a major training hub and is part of this dynamic. This dynamic is supported by the University of Montpellier, which has created a professional degree in "Industry Professions, Aeronautical Industry" to meet the needs of this rapidly expanding sector, which offers numerous career opportunities.
The professional degree in "Industrial Professions: Aeronautical Industry" is offered at the Montpellier-Sète University Institute of Technology (IUT) with a specialization in Avionics Systems Maintenance (MSA) at the Montpellier IUT campus.
The LP MSA is only available as a work-study program.
Objectives
The professional degree in "Industrial Professions: Aeronautical Industry" aims to train specialists in the organization, technical implementation, and supervision of aircraft maintenance tasks.
Students will become professionals in the aeronautics field, working as technicians or workshop managers in aircraft maintenance, testing, and quality control, particularly in the areas of avionics and aircraft instruments.
Know-how and skills
An aircraft maintenance and testing technician applies these skills in particular:
- Management and organization of aircraft maintenance operations.
- Conducting checks and analyzing the results.
- Drafting of procedures and technical reports.
- Teamwork, supervision.
- Technical communication, particularly in English.

The degree consists of 17 weeks of training and 35 weeks in a company, with the following work-study schedule:
- 1 month of training (2 months for thefirst period) and 1 month in a company
With an apprenticeship contract at CFA ENSUP LR Sud de France or a professional training contract at SFCUM.
The program is only available through work-study arrangements and consists of 17 weeks of training and 35 weeks of work experience.
Program
- A multidisciplinary course (450 hours) focused on aircraft maintenance, particularly with regard to avionics systems:
– Maintenance methods in aeronautics
– Regulations (PART 145 PART M), chapters ATA
– Aircraft electrification, aeronautical system controls
– Avionics systems
– Flight mechanics, Aerodynamic modeling
– Propulsion
– Non-destructive testing methods
– Business Communication, English
- Targeted refresher training based on previous experience (20 hours)
- A supervised project (120 hours)
- Personalized monitoring of work-study students
Classroom training takes place in the physical measurements department of the Montpellier University Institute of Technology and in the aeronautical hall of the École Supérieure des Métiers de l’Aéronautique (Montpellier airport).

Enrollment in a Professional Bachelor's Degree program at the IUT consists of three steps. Each step must be validated in order to proceed to the next one:
Step 1 – Admissibility of the application:
- Hold a two-year college degree or be currently enrolled*.
- Complete file.
Step 2 – Eligibility : Determined by an educational committee after reviewing the application (resume, cover letter, transcript, etc. – details on e-candidat). The committee may request additional documents for the application.
Step 3 – Final admission: Subject to the signing of a work-study contract (apprenticeship or professional training contract) with a company offering assignments in line with the LPro program, subject to availability.
Recommended profiles: BTS Aeronautics, MS, MM, CIEL option B; B.U.T MP, GEII, GIM, GMP; L2 or L3 (EEA, Physics, Mechanics skills).

Students become professionals in the aeronautics field and can work as ground test technicians, flight test technicians, or workshop managers.
