Overview
The professional bachelor’s degree program in Legal Guardian for Adults is designed to train professionals who wish to support vulnerable individuals in both personal and financial matters. The program is designed and organized in partnership with the Regional Institute of Social Work.
Objectives
Understand the legal and institutional framework for the legal protection of adults and the various protection systems
Identify the scope and limits of the implementation of measures
Understand the regulatory and legal foundations of social services and the applicable principles
Develop work methods and tools in line with the reform’s objectives: assessment, individualized intervention, and respect for the rights and freedoms of adults
Develop communication and budget management skills
Develop a professional identity and code of ethics
Master the fundamentals of guardianship intervention
Organization
Open on an alternating basis
Theoretical training takes place on the IRTS campus or at the School of Law; practical training is conducted in a corporate setting. The schedule is available on the IRTS and University websites.
This program is open to students enrolled in apprenticeship contracts, professional training contracts, and continuing education programs.
The program enables students to acquire or deepen their theoretical and practical knowledge and skills.
Program duration: 1 year (September to September)
450 hours (Lectures/Tutorials/Exams)
Theoretical instruction, practical training, and learning methods and tools for professional practice
Courses taught by university faculty and industry professionals
Mandatory work-study program or a minimum 14-week internship for career changers.
Attendance is mandatory and monitored

Admission
Admission Requirements
Limited number of spots. Applications must be submitted via the University of Montpellier’s e-candidat platform starting in March of each year.
The program will be available for the 2025–2026 academic year, subject to approval by the relevant authorities.
Target Audience
The program is open to individuals who have earned 120 ECTS credits (bac +2)
Second-year undergraduate degree (L2) in Law, Economics, Management, Economic and Social Administration, or Health and Social Sciences
DUT / BTS / BUT in social services, management, administration, law, or finance
Level 6 state-recognized social work degrees (ASS, ES, EJE, CESF, ETS)
Individuals currently employed or seeking career transition: may apply for recognition of professional and personal experience (VAPP).

Holders of the Professional Bachelor’s Degree are primarily prepared to work as:
Judicial representative for the protection of adults (guardianship associations)
Judicial representative for the protection of adults working as an institutional staff member (civil service)
Judicial guardian for adults practicing independently (professional experience required)

Option to apply for master’s programs: Admission to a two-year master’s program is granted following submission of an application on the Monsmaster website and completion of the selection process.
