Overview
5UE – 45 hours – 6 months of e-learning
- Introductory Module (key concepts in gerontology, processes of frailty, etc.)
- General Public Knowledge (Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia, behavioral disorders, and care…)
- Conceptual and Practical Approaches (Factors and Criteria for Fragility and Vulnerability)
- Ethical and Legal Approaches (Welfare and Abuse, Legal Protection of Vulnerable Adults, Criminal Liability, etc.)
- Support and Assistance Services (personal care professions, SSIAD, MAIA, etc.)

Objectives
Understanding the Concepts of Vulnerability and Fragility
Understanding the Consequences of Frailty in Aging
Understanding the Concepts of Frailty and Vulnerability in the Medical, Psychological, and Social Dimensions of Older Adults
Knowing how to identify and anticipate factors that increase vulnerability
Understanding the ethical and legal issues related to vulnerability
Identify and utilize support networks and resources for vulnerable individuals
Expertise and Skills
- Identify older adults who are frail and/or vulnerable
- Develop observational and analytical skills to provide care that is as closely tailored as possible to the needs of older adults
- Identifying a behavioral disorder and understanding its causes
- Adapting to Situations of Fragility and Vulnerability
- Adopt a professional demeanor appropriate to each person's situation
- Identifying Factors Contributing to Frailty and Vulnerability Among Older Adults
- Identify environments that create vulnerability and learn how to adapt them

A written exam at the end of the course (assignment to be turned in).

- Level 4 and 5 Professionals
- Practicing Professionals: Home Health Aides, Care Coordinators, Nursing Assistants, Medical-Psychological Aides, Personal Care Aides, Special Education Teachers, Medical-Social Services Staff (nursing homes, ESATs, etc.), Local Government Employees, and SSIAD Staff.
