Presentation
Please note: The content of this course is indicative (2020-2021 basis); the teaching will be subject to change for the academic year 2021-2022.
The Materials (MAT) specialisation trains general engineers (bac+5) capable of developing, elaborating, characterising, transforming and using materials. It makes them aware of eco-design and sustainable development.
The advantages of the course
ALL THE SCHOOL'S COURSES ARE BASED ON A NETWORK OF SOLID PARTNERSHIPS WITH :
- the industrial world (800 internships, 200 industrial projects and 50 apprenticeship contracts per year),
- academic research (14 associated research laboratories),
- International (over 100 partner universities worldwide).
Know-how and skills
Upon graduation, the MAT :
- Has acquired a solid scientific foundation in chemistry, physics and mechanics;
- Has a good knowledge of the technologies specific to the different classes of materials (polymers, glasses, ceramics, metals, etc.);
- Is able to manage the technical, human and economic aspects of a project or activity in the field of high diffusion or high added value materials;
- Is attentive to issues of sustainability, recycling and eco-design.
He/she is able to perform the following functions:
- Research and development
- Design
- Tests and studies
- Quality and standardisation
- Production
- Technical expertise and advice
- Maintenance

Special facilities
THE TECHNOLOGY HALL
The school has a technology hall, equipped with specific state-of-the-art equipment with which the students of the Materials specialisation carry out their practical work and projects.
- Equipment for the elaboration and shaping of materials: furnace, agitator, press, polisher, cutting machine, oven, etc.
- Material characterisation tools: microscope, granulometer, spectrometer, dilatometer, thermogravimeter and calorimetric analysis, chromatograph, rheometer, traction machine, extensometer, refractometer, etc.

SPECIALISATION IN THE4th YEAR
From the4th year onwards, MAT students can specialise:
- or in the physical chemistry of materials,
- or in mechanics of materials.
However, a common core for both options remains important in years4 and5.
