The hearing aid technician diploma aims to teach techniques for fitting hearing aids to people with hearing loss, taking into account the selection, fitting, delivery, and effectiveness testing of hearing aids, as well as providing prosthetic education to the person being fitted.
The program lasts three years and is open to candidates who hold a high school diploma or a qualification that is accepted as equivalent to a high school diploma, with a view to pursuing university studies after admission via Parcoursup.
The diploma is available through continuing education and work-study programs.

An opportunity to participate in work-study programs starting in the second year
Montpellier is one of the few schools to offer work-study programs starting in the second year, allowing students to combine theoretical training with professional experience.
Tuition fees are then covered by the employer.

Objectives
Teach techniques for fitting hearing aids, taking into account the selection, fitting, delivery, and effectiveness testing of hearing aids, as well as providing prosthetic education to the person receiving the device.
Know-how and skills
Conducting hearing tests (non-medical):
- Audiometric tests (tonal, vocal) to assess hearing loss;
- Interpretation of results in conjunction with the ENT prescription.
Choice and fitting of hearing aids:
-Selection of the device best suited to the patient's type of hearing loss and lifestyle;
-Precise adjustment of the device (digital settings, calibration).
Ear impression taking:
-For the manufacture of custom ear tips;
Monitoring and checking the effectiveness of the device:
-Auditory rehabilitation.
-Successive adjustments after the adaptation phase.
Maintenance and repair:
- Cleaning, replacement of parts, routine repairs.

Second year:
-Internship in a hearing aid laboratory: 16 weeks, equivalent to 560 hours.
Third year:
-Internship in an audioprosthetics laboratory: 16 weeks, equivalent to 560 hours
-Internship in applied technology with a manufacturer: 1 week, equivalent to 35 hours
-2 months devoted to writing the thesis

Admission requirements
- Candidates of French nationality or EU nationals, graduates or future graduates of:
French or European Baccalaureate, or secondary school diploma issued by an EU member state. - Foreign diploma outside the EEA.

Please note: Applicants who are nationals of a country where French is neither an official language nor an administrative language and who have not obtained or are not in the process of obtaining a French Baccalaureate must provide proof of a minimum B2 level in French (DALF, DELF, etc.) to be presented on the day of registration at the latest.

Gateways and reorientation
In exceptional cases, the Validation of Personal and Professional Experience (VAPP) program may grant direct admission to the second year of the training program leading to the state certification as an audiologist.
No transfer options are available from the audiology training program.

The employment rate for hearing aid specialists upon graduation is very high in France. According to available data, approximately 90 to 95% of graduates find employment within six months of obtaining their degree.
