Presentation

The aim of the audio-prosthetist diploma is to teach the techniques involved in fitting hearing aids, taking into account the choice, fitting, delivery and effectiveness control of the hearing aid, as well as the prosthetic education of the person fitted.

The 3-year course is open to candidates who hold a baccalauréat or a diploma that is exempt from or equivalent to the baccalauréat, and who wish to continue their studies at a university, after admission via parcoursup.

The diploma is available through continuing education and work-study programs.

Recognized quality teaching

Founded in 1967, the Montpellier School of Audioprosthetics is one of the oldest in France, with a solid reputation.
Training is provided within the Faculty of Pharmacy, offering a rigorous, interdisciplinary academic framework. 

Professional training

Work-linked training starting in year 2

Montpellier is one of the few schools to offer a sandwich course from the 2nd year, enabling students to combine theoretical training with professional experience.

Objectives

Teach techniques for fitting hearing aids, including selection, fitting, dispensing, checking the effectiveness of the hearing aid and prosthetic education of the person fitted.

Know-how and skills

Non-medical hearing assessments:
Audiometric tests (tonal, vocal) to assess hearing loss;
- Interpretation of results in line with ENT prescription,

Hearing aid selection and fitting:
-Selecting the right hearing aid for the patient's type of hearing loss and lifestyle;
-Precise adjustment of the hearing aid (digital settings, calibration).

Ear impression:
-For the manufacture of custom earmolds; 

Follow-up and control of fitting effectiveness:
-Aural re-education.
-Successive adjustments after the adaptation phase.

Maintenance and repair:
-Cleaning, parts replacement, routine repairs.

Internship

Mandatory

In the first year:
-Internship in a hearing-aid laboratory: 4 weeks, equivalent to 140 hours
-Internship in a gerontological institution: 2 weeks, equivalent to 70 hours
-Internship in a hospital department (treatment of the deaf, audiometric assessment): 10 weeks, equivalent to 350 hours.

Second year:
-Internship in a hearing-aid laboratory: 16 weeks, equivalent to 560 hours.

In the third year:
-Internship in an audioprosthesis laboratory: 16 weeks, equivalent to 560 hours
-Applied technology internship with a manufacturer: 1 week, equivalent to 35 hours
-2 months devoted to writing a thesis.

No gateways from audioprosthetics training are possible.
